Kangaroo Island, South Australia

Manage to organised a 3 days 2nights road trip all the way down from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island before the bush fire happened.

Started our road trip at 7am in the morning as we need to catch the ferry from Cape Jarvis to the Kangaroo Island Terminal - Penneshaw.

While waiting for the ferry, starting out first Photoshoot next to the terminal with the sea breeze and morning blue sky !

It was shower during the day and while we reach Kangaroo Island terminal, we saw the rainbow while we on our way to our very first destination.

We manage to visit couple place and stop by for half an hour just to take photo and continue to our next destination. Kangaroo Island most of the time is all about driving as destination from one to the other is further away from each other.

Admiral arch

Admiral arch is an arch that facing directly to the sea and there are seal all over the place !

The Panorama below taken while we walking down to the admiral arch

Lucky enough to take a close up photo with the seal while walking down to the arch.

Remarkable Rock

Remarkable rock at Flinder chase is one of our destinations but unable to take many photo due to the weather are cloudy and raining. We stop by for half an hour and ran into car just to avoid of getting cold from the rain as well as the sea breeze is pretty strong.

Cape Du Couedi Light House

Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat (KIWR)

We stay overnight at Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat(KIWR) and we marinated our ingredient for our dinner at this retreat because this wilderness retreat have their BBQ facilities where guest are free to use and tools is provided as well. Their rooms is surrounded with nature and animal, woke up in the morning with animal running around with a fresh air from the nature to start our second day road trip.

Kelly Hill Cave

Visit Kelly Hill in the early morning and planning to join the show caves. But due to the timing and duration is longer than we expecting so we decide to skip and continue to our next destination instead. Also, there is entrance fee required for this Kelly Hill Cave if you would like to join the Show Caves where you able to claim

Sand boarding - Little Sahara

Little Sahara is a small dessert in Kangaroo Island, this is the place where visitor can hire a sand-board and toboggan. We hire two sandbar and one toboggan from Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action (KI Outdoor Action). When hire any of the equipment it will provide a cube of bee wax to create more friction while sliding down through the sand. They do offer family package which suitable for a group of family to have a day out with kids.

At the end we realise we should only hire one each as we all are first time playing sand boarding and it is not easy learn, pricing wise is not cheap .

But in overall, Toboggan is easier than Sand board as it required a really good body balancing to control the direction similar to snowboard but slightly harder because of it has more friction than snow.

Seafood at Kingscote

After the sand boarding until the evening and we start driving through our second night accommodation down to Kingscote and having seafood for dinner at Kangaroo Island Fresh Seafood which located close to our hotel and next to the fuel station. After checked in to our hotel we all are exhausted and decide to drive through the seafood instead of walking.

This seafood is fresh and juicy especially the cold plate seafood is taste the original sweetness from the seafood itself without adding any seasoning. I highly recommend this seafood store and some of their seafood running out when we arrived in the evening.

Overnight at Kingscote

Staying overnight at Kingscote for the day and having our breakfast in the hotel. Unfortunately, we got bumped from our original hotel as they fully booked during the night and move us into other hotel where the hotel is facing the sea.

Seal Bay Conservation Park

Starting out last half day Kangaroo Island trip in the early morning and heading down to the Seal Bay Conservation Park. Entrance fees required when walking in to the park. If you want to have a close up photo they do offer a package where the tour guide will bring you all the way down to the seal area next to the beach or the general entrance fee will have further distance with the seal.

This are the beach where all the seal stop by for a rest after a long journey.

This is the end of the bridge that facing the seal next to the beach in the park

Cactus cafe

One of the popular cafe to visit in Kangaroo Island is the Cactus Cafe that serving fusion brunch.

We stop by after the Seal Conservation Park for our lunch before heading down to the terminal

Bacon and sourdough

Stir Fried soba noodle with Salmon

Bao Bun with pulled pork

Orphan Kangaroo

While on our way to the ferry terminal, we stopped by the orphan kangaroo where they selling local product and souvenir as well as adopting the baby kangaroo.

This is where all the poor baby kangaroo that being left by their parent when they born and they adopted them and feeding them daily basis.

Beehive & Clifford's Honey Farm

Another famous brand in Australia that produced from Kangaroo Island, they produce many different bee product and provide honey tasting for all the guests as well. There are many type of honey and it taste differently and the honeycomb ice cream is highly recommended !

Also, they are another different honey producer in kangaroo island Clifford's Honey farm they do have their honey ice cream where they produce everyday to maintain the freshness. Their Honey Ice cream is highly recommended because it is fresh and smooth, we end up take away 3 cups of ice cream as we can't bring it back to Adelaide due to the weather is pretty warm on the day.

  • Clifford's Honey farm also produce a honey beer, but I personally not prefer because it taste slightly bitter compare to normal beer but you can taste the honey in it.

In overall, Kangaroo Island is a place where all about nature and kangaroo that suddenly crossing the road while you driving, suitable for people that like to drive.

The distance from one to another is far away, so please expect will be a lot of driving during the trip. Also, it is pretty dark at night due to there are none. of street light except in city area. After this Kangaroo Island trip, I personally will not visit again unless in certain occasion, as in I am a city person and prefer convenient where you can get everything within a walking distance as well as I am sick of sitting in the car for hour to get from one to another destination.
